Use of Mobile Phones in School
Students may use mobile phones:
During Break - in the Dining Halls or outside the building only.
During Lunch - in the Dining Halls or outside the building only.
Students MUST NOT use mobiles AT ALL in class, or on the corridors.
Any mobile seen in a classroom will be confiscated without further warning, and will be returned at the end of the day. Refusal to hand it over will be a serious offence. In the event of a second confiscation, a parent/carer will have to visit school to have the device returned.
The corridor ban is necessary because paying attention to a phone while on the move in a busy corridor is a health and safety risk, leading to accidents which are completely avoidable. For the same reason the ban also applies during wet breaks when all students have to remain inside the building.
If you need to make emergency contact when students are in class, please do so through our main switchboard on (01429) 273041.
The times you can contact students direct are:
Before school starts at 8.55am
During Break - 11.15am-11.30am
During Lunch - 12.30pm-1.30pm
After school finishes at 3.30pm
Mobile phones, like iPods, MP3 players and other hand-held electronic devices, tend to be small and easily lost or damaged. Their presence in the classroom is a major distraction and will not be allowed. In many respects they are best left at home. The school cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage, and staff cannot afford time to search for lost mobiles etc.
