Van Mildert Young Person’s Project (YPP) 2018
The project aims to encourage a select group of students from Year 10 to give serious thought about further education and university. It comprises of 30 students from Year 10 at St. Hild’s and they attend six-weekly sessions based at our school on a Monday evening. The sessions focus on making our students more aware of what further education and university is about and hopefully raise their aspirations for the future.
Following the weekly sessions students will be invited to attend a residential at the university campus. Another school, Joseph Swan Academy from Gateshead, will also be present. The residential is superbly organised; it is a very worthwhile and beneficial experience for our students. This project has taken place for several years and many students from St. Hild’s have benefitted from being involved.
The project in 2018 will be particularly special this year as two former St. Hild’s pupils, James Brennan and Amy Cussons, will be among the volunteers from Van Mildert College leading the project. This will be the first time in the long history of the project that a former pupil of St. Hild’s will be involved in the running of this annual event.
Although there is a lot of work that goes into organising the project, it is a unique event and the students selected thoroughly enjoy it and get a lot out of it. The YPP team are extremely well organised and always demonstrate great competence in their ability to work with our students. As a school we are incredibly privileged to be able to take part in this project.
